WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2015

On June 5th, we celebrate the World Environment Day (WED), a global celebration that aims to raise awareness about the need to safeguard our environment. This date was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 as a vehicle to raise public awareness on the importance of the environment, promoting political attention and action. WED aims to involve all human beings to act as active agents in sustainable development of the planet.

“Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care.”

This year, the theme of the World Environment Day is the efficient use of resources and their sustainable production and consumption, according to the regenerative capacity of the planet, as it is embodied in the slogan: “Seven billion dreams . One Planet. Consume with Care. “

People’s welfare, the environment and the development of the economy depend on the responsible management we make of the planet’s natural resources. Unfortunately, people are still consuming more natural resources than the planet can sustainably provide.

The consequences of over-consumption.

The over-exploitation system in which our way of life is based, is taking the Earth’s ecosystems to nearing critical tipping points of depletion and irreversible change. If current consumption and production patterns remain the same, and with a rising population, in 2050 we will need three planets to sustain our current way of life.

More with less.

Consume with Care means living taking into account the limits of the planet to ensure a healthy future where our dreams can be realized. Prosperity should not have a cost on the Earth. Living sustainably involves doing more and better with less. This means reducing current rates of natural resource use and the environmental impact. It is about looking for people’s welfare in a healthy environment, not just economic development.

Because every action counts, WED is the opportunity for every person to realize the responsibility we all have to care for the Earth and to become agents of change. As Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations, said: “Although individual decisions may seem small in the face of global threats and trends, when billions of people join forces in common purpose, we can make a tremendous difference.”

At Sinplastico, we work every day to achieve this purpose and therefore we join this celebration and encourage you to give daily steps towards a responsible and sustainable consumption.
